John Gibson was a sailor, in 1901 he was a Ship's Steward ("Steward oversees the commissary of a vessel. He is in charge of the cook."). The National Archives does have some records for sailors. In their database, there is this record:"ADM 188/875, dated 2nd Sept 1891, John Charles Gibson born East Ham, London. It is in the series Admiralty: Register of Seaman's Services. " |
