Not much for definite is known about John Wallis / Wallace. He is named on Mary Ann's marriage when he was a labourer. Mary Ann's grandmother was a Longton so it was possible to trace John's marriage to Mary Ann Longton in 1872 in Deptford. Here he is shown as 23 and a painter. Their first child, Mary Ann, was born soon after. It looks like his wife Mary Ann died young - possibly aged 33 - and the children were living with grandparents and other family. He seems to have had at least 4 children: Mary Ann, James, John and Ellen. There is currently no clearly identifiable census record for John Wallis. |
