There were 882 "Saints" on board. A visitor to the ship before it sailed was Charles Dickens who wrote about his visit in "The Uncommercial Traveller"! Rootsweb
John and Rebecca travelled to Salt Lake City: "death did not strike this little family as it did so many of the earlier pioneers. Of course, many lessons had been learned by now, 1861 and 1863, on how best to get the Saints across the plains with fewer casualties."

They would have gone via Central Garden processing in New York Harbour, then train to Florence, Nebraska. They were then collected by wagon.

They initially camped in the tithing yard at Salt Lake City. They then settled in Bountiful where he worked as a shoe maker. Rebecca's daughter Emma and son George also lived here. They returned to Salt Lake City and he kept a General Store in the 7th Ward.
